Arab Israeli teen suspected of planning terror attack

State prosecutors are preparing to file charges against an Arab Israeli teen suspected of planning to carry out a terror attack in a northern Jewish town.

The 18-year-old suspect from Ibillin will be indicted this morning in the Haifa District Court, the Shin Bet and police say in a statement.

The suspect allegedly holds membership in Hamas and planned to carry out attacks on behalf of the terror group, one of which was meant to target a Jewish town next to Ibillin. He tried to acquire an M16 assault rifle for this purpose, according to the security agencies.

He attempted to teach himself how to use firearms and prepare explosives, officials add. Though he did not succeed in getting ahold of a gun, he did acquire and stash away ammunition in his home, which police officers later seized.
