US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Israeli leaders assured him in meetings today that they will condemn the ongoing wave of settler violence in the West Bank and take actions to curb the phenomenon and to hold perpetrators accountable.

“We will be looking closely to ensure that our friends make good on that commitment,” Blinken tells reporters in Tel Aviv

Government officials have yet to speak out against the phenomenon.

Blinken says the US call for Israel to protect civilians doesn’t just apply to the Gaza Strip but to the West Bank as well, “where extremist violence against Palestinians must be stopped.”

Taking questions, he says the Israel government is committed to enabling humanitarian assistance getting to the people of Gaza.
