Eurovision producers worried about holding next year’s contest in politically-charged Jerusalem

The producers of the Eurovision song contest have expressed concern about the Israeli government’s insistence in holding next year’s competition in Jerusalem, worrying that the politically-charged city could harm the spirit of the event, the Haaretz daily reports.

Officials from the European Broadcasting Union shared their concern with Finance Ministry officials during meetings in Israel this week to plan next year’s Eurovision.

The Finance Ministry officials tell Haaretz that they have not yet received an assessment regarding the costs of hosting the competition, which has stalled preparations thus far.
