For first time, Sissi says Russian plane downed by ‘terrorism’

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi acknowledges for the first time that militants brought down a Russian passenger plane over the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015.

“Has terrorism ended? No… Whoever downed that plane, what did he want? Just to hit tourism? No. To hit relations. To hit relations with Russia,” Sissi says in a speech.

Sissi had previously dismissed as “propaganda” a claim by the Islamic State jihadist group that it downed the plane, killing all 224 people on board.
