IDF says troops found ‘large number’ of weapons including RPG, assault rifles in Rafah area

IDF troops located a cache of weapons belonging to Hamas operatives amid mop-up operations in the Rafah area of the southern Gaza Strip, on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line, the military says.

The IDF says the find was made yesterday by troops of the 7th Armored Brigade during efforts to demolish Hamas tunnels in the area.

The troops located a “large number” of assault rifles, an RPG, and an explosive device, the military says, adding that the weapons were intended to be used by Hamas operatives from the terror group’s Rafah Brigade to attack Israeli forces in the area.

Dozens of Hamas operatives are believed to be underground in the eastern Rafah area, on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line. The IDF has reported killing or capturing some 50 of them in recent months.
