Iran claims to have attacked US tanker in Persian Gulf, says it controls passage in wartime
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claims an attack on an American oil tanker in the northern reaches of the Persian Gulf.
The tanker is on fire, the statement asserts.
The statement read on Iranian state television does not elaborate, but may be linked to an attack off the coast of Kuwait earlier today in which a tanker was targeted, according to a report from the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center.
The Guards add in the statement that, in time of war, passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be under the control of the Islamic Republic.
