Kerry: Settlement building does not help tensions
US Secretary of State John Kerry says increased settlement construction by Israel is not helping to calm tensions, almost five months into a wave of deadly violence by Palestinians, Reuters reports.
“I don’t think that the situation is helped by additional settlement construction and building,” Kerry tells a hearing on the State Department’s budget request.
He adds: “I think that I know we need to see measures taken on both sides to indicate a readiness and willingness to try to proceed forward and reduce the violence.”
