Prosecutors have filed charges against a man who allegedly passed Iranian agents information on strategic sites in Israel, including army and air force bases, with information he received from his girlfriend in the reserves.
The defendant, 27-year-old Shimon Azarzar, was arrested with his girlfriend in October on suspicion of security offenses. He allegedly extracted information from her while she was on reserve duty at an Air Force base. They both reside in Kiryat Yam, just north of Haifa.
Police say that Azarzar “transferred photos and locations of sensitive sites in Israel, and even offered to send vital information to his handlers from within IDF bases.”
He was in contact with Iranian intelligence agents for over a year, and received digital payment in return for carrying out the espionage tasks, police add. Officials have not made clear whether his partner is also to be charged.
He was indicted this morning in the Haifa District Court.
