Mofaz calls for renewed ground op

The current round of Israeli-Hamas hostilities is nearing its end, and a ground invasion might be necessary to stem rocket fire from Gaza, MK Shaul Mofaz of the Kadima party says.

“Mortar shells have exacted a very heavy price from us,” Mofaz, a former IDF chief of staff, tells Ynet, alluding to multiple Israeli soldiers killed in mortar attacks throughout the war with Hamas, as well as four-year-old Daniel Tragerman, who was killed by a shell on Friday.

“If there is no other way to stop it except a ground invasion, then we will have to go in,” he adds.

“We are nearing the end of the current round, and Israel can’t return to [the formula] quiet in exchange for quiet,” he says. “We need to put an end to the attrition and win the campaign.”
