Parole board rejects soldier-slapper Tamimi’s petition for early release
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA parole board rejects a petition by the attorney of 17-year-old Palestinian Ahed Tamimi, who was given an 8-month prison sentence after being filmed slapping and shoving soldiers outside her home in the West Bank village of Nebi Saleh.
The petition asked that her sentence be cut by a third.
Officials from the Shin Bet security service had advocated against the request, arguing that releasing Tamimi in the current political climate could spiral the situation in the West Bank out of control. Moreover, the Shin Bet had pointed out that Tamimi has yet to express remorse for her actions.
As she left the courtroom after the decision, she was quoted as telling the panel, “You have no right to decide my fate. I will leave prison with my head held high.”
