Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office dismiss claims by former attorney general Michael Ben Yair that Israel staged rocket fire from the Gaza Strip in order to deliberately bring down the truce with Hamas last week.
The official tells the NRG news website that “Hamas is the one that fired first around 3:00 p.m., nine hours before the expiration of the ceasefire. Hamas fired three rockets at Beersheba and thus broke, for the eleventh time, the ceasefire.”
Ben Yair claimed in a Facebook post that the rocket fire was a false-flag in order to justify assassinating Muhammad Deif.
“There’s no deal,” Ben Yair wrote on Wednesday. “There are renewed acts of hostility. Who’s guilty? The big question — Hamas, which wants a better deal, or Israel, which staged a [truce] violation in order to assassinate Muhammad Deif.”
