A majority of Israelis oppose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported deal with ultra-Orthodox parties Shas and United Torah Judaism to swiftly advance some of their legislative agenda in exchange for supporting coalition priorities, according to a Channel 12 poll.
The two Haredi parties have denied the existence of a deal, despite widespread reports on its details.
The survey finds that 62% oppose the agreement, while just 23% support it. Even among coalition voters, 22% say they oppose the deal.
The poll also examines a scenario in which Benny Gantz’s Blue and White party, Yoaz Hendel’s Reservists party and political newcomer Dedy Simhi run on a joint list. The alliance would win five Knesset seats and, assuming it joined the opposition, lift the bloc to 60 seats, compared with 50 for Netanyahu’s bloc, while the Arab parties, Hadash-Ta’al and Ra’am, would hold 10 seats.
The network did not provide data on the number of people polled or the margin of error.
