A Swedish teenager who was rescued from Islamic State in Iraq says she had no idea that IS is a terrorist group.
Marilyn Nevalainen, 16, who went to the city of Mosul with her jihadist boyfriend, tells Kurdish TV that she was duped into going, British newspaper The Telegraph reports.
“First we were good together but then he started to look at the ISIS videos and started to speak about them,” she says, according to the Telegraph. “I don’t know anything about Islam or ISIL or some things and I do not know what he meant. And then he said he wanted to go to ISIS and I said to him, ‘OK, no problem,’ because I didn’t know what ISIL means, what Islam is.”
ISIS and ISIL are both acronyms for the Islamic State group.
