US President Donald Trump tells his supporters that the US has “ended the war” with Iran, even as Tehran says it has not yet reached a final decision on the deal with Washington currently on the table.
“I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today,” Trump tells his supporters at a virtual rally for a Georgia gubernatorial candidate, in remarks recorded by CNN.
He claims Iran has “agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on.”
Iran has always denied that it is seeking to obtain nuclear weapons, but has stockpiles of uranium enriched to a degree that has no peaceful application.
Iran has disputed Trump’s claim, with foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei saying that the Islamic Republic “has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement.”
