US President Donald Trump claims Iran “agreed to a deal” on Saturday before striking a ship in the Strait of Hormuz with a drone.
“We had meetings with them. They agreed to a deal yesterday. A perfect deal for us. No nuclear… They gave up everything, and then… within an hour, they launched a drone at a ship,” Trump tells NBC’s “Meet the Press.” It’s unclear what deal Trump is talking about.
“I said, ‘You people are sick, and so it’s one of those things,'” Trump adds of Iran.
He insists that the Strait of Hormuz remains open — despite Iran’s claims to the contrary — and that the US “bombed the hell out of them last night” before insisting that the interview keep its focus on the passing of Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Trump says he talked with him on the phone shortly before he died and that Graham “sounded a little tired, but perfect.”
“I got to know him during the [2016 presidential] campaign. He said, ‘I’ll see you in South Carolina.’ But when it came to South Carolina, I won it by a lot.”
“I thought he was just going to live forever,” Trump says of Graham.
