Ultra-Orthodox protest in Jerusalem after draft dodger’s remand extended

Dozens of ultra-Orthodox demonstrators block Jerusalem’s Kikar Hashabbat to protest the remand of religious student being extended, for avoiding mandatory military service.

Police at the scene are working to clear the demonstrators from the square.

The demonstration comes as coalition infighting over legislation exempting ultra-Orthodox students from serving in the military threatens to topple the government and lead to new elections.
