At least 100 children have been killed in airstrikes and violence in Gaza since the start of the ceasefire three months ago, the United Nations asserts.
“More than 100 children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire of early October. That’s roughly a girl or a boy killed here every day during a ceasefire,” James Elder, spokesman for the UN children’s agency UNICEF, tells reporters in Geneva from Gaza City.
He says the children had been killed in “airstrikes, drone strikes, including suicide drones… tank shelling… live ammunition.”
There is no immediate response from the Israeli military. Israel has said it carries out attacks on gunmen who approach and pose a threat to Israeli forces along the ceasefire line, as well as on terror targets in response to attacks on troops stationed in the enclave.
Older teens who are still minors have been known to enlist as gunmen in terror groups, and it is difficult to know whether the numbers cited by UNICEF were all civilians.
