After holding a situational assessment, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir approves plans for the continuation of fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon, the military says.
During a visit to the Northern Command and later to the headquarters of the 401st Armored Brigade, which has been operating in Lebanon, Zamir says the IDF is “determined to deepen the blow against Hezbollah.”
“In the Northern Command, we continue striking Hezbollah in every dimension,” Zamir says, adding that “the security of residents and the safety of our troops come above all else.”
The chief of staff also says the military remains “prepared to immediately return to intense fighting and further weaken the Iranian terror regime and its capabilities,” amid ongoing regional tensions.
Zamir’s remarks come as the United States and Iran work to negotiate a lasting peace agreement, which is reportedly expected to be signed in the coming days, and may include a clause calling for a cessation of fighting in Lebanon.
Zamir additionally praises the 401st Brigade and wishes a speedy recovery to its commander, Col. Meir Biderman, who was seriously wounded last week while leading troops in southern Lebanon.
