Police chief promises to restore public’s sense of safety
Amid wave of violent crime, Yohanan Danino tells Knesset he plans to put more cops in the streets

Yohanan Danino promised to assuage the public’s growing sense of vulnerability, telling the Knesset in a special hearing on violent crime Wednesday that he would send more officers to patrol the streets so that citizens can feel more secure.
The hearing was called in response to a rash of violent crimes that have dominated the news in recent days: a brutal rape, a stabbing, and a shooting, all in Tel Aviv, and the stabbing death in Beersheba of a man who asked youths to quiet down.
Danino noted that statistics showed a significant decrease in violent crimes in recent months, but said that citizens who nevertheless felt threatened deserved to see a reinforced police presence on city streets.
