With the reams upon reams of words being written in Israel about the prospect of an American-led attack on Syria over the past several days, in response to the Assad regime’s alleged use of chemical weapons to kill hundreds of its own people last week, one Israeli webmaster set up a site that cuts to the heart of the matter.
The “Kvar takfu” website consists of just one page and on it are just three words. The first two pose a question in Hebrew, “Kvar takfu?” which means “have they attacked yet?” referring to a possible strike by Western powers upon Syria. Below that appears word three, “Lo,” the Hebrew word for “no”… at least as of Thursday afternoon.
The site was set up on Thursday and by afternoon had over 4,000 Facebook “likes” and had been tweeted 114 times.
Since it’s never been tested, it is unclear how quickly the website would update if a strike went ahead. The public might therefore be advised to rely on more authoritative sources.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
