Beirut confirms Aoun-Trump call, says US president said he’s committed to securing ceasefire

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s office confirms a phone call between him and US President Donald Trump earlier today.

Aoun thanked Trump for his efforts to secure a ceasefire in Lebanon, the Lebanese readout says, ostensibly referring to US pressure on Israel to hold its fire on Hezbollah — something Jerusalem has yet to agree to.

Trump responded by expressing his support for Aoun’s government, saying that he is committed to meeting the Lebanese request for a ceasefire, the Lebanese readout adds.
