Eisenkot hits back at Netanyahu’s AI attack ad with montage of PM’s allies praising Abbas

Gadi Eisenkot hits back at an AI-generated attack ad from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggesting that he’ll need to rely on Arab parties to form a government, posting an montage of Netanyahu’s allies praising Arab politician Mansour Abbas.

The ad from Netanyahu shows Eisenkot, the centrist running to unseat the premier, declining an embrace from a young man wearing a shirt reading “Israeli unity” in favor of an embrace with Abbas. It claims Eisenkot will only be able to form a coalition with the support of Arab parties such as Abbas’s Ra’am.

Critics say the young man is heavily implied to be a stand-in for Eisenkot’s son Gal, who was killed fighting in the Gaza war.

Eisenkot’s ad shows an actual montage of Netanyahu’s allies — both fellow Likud lawmakers and pro-Netanyahu pundits — praising Abbas and suggesting that he could serve in a Netanyahu-led coalition or cabinet, or as a committee leader in the Knesset. It also shows Abbas saying Netanyahu invited him to the prime minister’s residence four times.

The ad ends by saying Netanyahu can only form a government by partnering with non-Zionist parties.

Abbas has said repeatedly that Netanyahu courted him as an ally, before the Ra’am leader chose to form a government with the prime minister’s opponents in 2021, which unseated Netanyahu for a year and a half.
