Former Labor Party MK and Knesset speaker Avraham Burg has joined a fledgling left-wing, Arab-Jewish party ahead of the upcoming Knesset election.

Burg will be given a spot behind the two leaders of the Makom Lekulanu (“A Place for Us All”) party — Rula Daood and Alon-Lee Green, according to Hebrew media reports.

Makom Lekulanu has also been in talks with representatives from Arab-majority parties about a possible merger in order to prevent a scenario where it does not cross the electoral threshold — a likelihood in a crowded field.

Speaking to Haaretz, Burg insists that Makom Lekulanu will not waste votes, claiming that those who are considering supporting the new party are those disillusioned by the existing options and interested in true Arab-Jewish partnership.
