High Court questions Knesset’s approval of funds for Haredi schools, settlements during recess

The High Court of Justice has instructed the Knesset’s Finance Committee and the Finance Ministry to explain why plans to transfer hundreds of millions in funds to ultra-Orthodox schools and the Settlements Ministry should not be canceled.

The funds, over a quarter billion shekels, were approved during a special Finance Committee hearing convened after the Knesset had already entered recess.

The court froze the transfer earlier this month until it could hold a hearing on the matter, citing “apparent procedural flaws” in the convening of the committee itself, and now appears poised to nix the move.
