Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slams his Turkish counterpart over “anti-Semitic” comments he made in the wake of Operation Protective Edge. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s words “desecrate the memory of the Holocaust,” Netanyahu tells US Secretary of State John Kerry in a telephone conversation overnight.
Erdogan, who is running for president in Turkey, also said Israel’s operation in Gaza accounts to “barbarism that surpasses Hitler.”

Netanyahu conducted security consultations in the Defense Ministry’s Tel Aviv headquarters until after midnight, diplomatic sources say. Netanyahu discussed a possible expansion of the ground operation in Gaza with Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, the heads of the Shin Bet and Mossad intelligence agencies and other senior security officials.
On Sunday, the prime minister is set to continue holding security consultations throughout the day, in addition to conducting conversations with foreign heads of state and government, the diplomatic sources say.
