The Department of Internal Police Investigations has informed an officer that he will be charged, subject to a hearing, with negligent homicide for the killing of 36-year-old Muhammad Hussein Tarabin during a raid in the southern Bedouin town of Tarabin al-Sana on January 4, DIPI confirms to The Times of Israel.

The officer, whose identity is under a gag order, said in a DIPI interrogation that Tarabin had charged him “with a weapon like a knife,” but a person involved in the investigation says no object fitting the description was found at the scene of the killing, Haaretz reports.

Police raided the Bedouin town as part of an operation launched at the time in response to the arson and vandalism of vehicles in two neighboring Jewish towns.

At the time, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir lauded the police conduct in Tarabin, amid allegations that he was spearheading an incitement campaign against Bedouin citizens.
