COGAT, the Defense Ministry body that coordinates Israeli activity in Gaza, says it is working to help counter the rat infestations in the Strip.

In a statement, COGAT says it is working with the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center “to manage sanitation efforts in the Gaza Strip.”

In line with that goal, COGAT says that yesterday “hundreds of cartons of specialized pesticides for rodent and rat control” entered Gaza alongside 20 tons of “pesticides and pest-control equipment.”

With hundreds of thousands of Gazans living in tent camps, rat infestations have been rising, sparking fears of spreading diseases.
