French police have arrested over 416 people after violent clashes erupted when thousands poured onto the streets during the Paris Saint-Germain soccer club’s Champions League final victory, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.
Some 22,000 police were deployed across France for the game, including 8,000 in Paris, after unrest marred PSG’s win in the competition last year. Paris tram lines were halted, several metro stations shut and bus traffic halted in places in a bid to minimise disturbances.
Six vehicles and two businesses were damaged. A police officer was also injured, the Paris police headquarters says.
A group of supporters also stormed the Paris ring road, the peripherique, bringing traffic to a halt for a time and letting off flares.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
