Israeli strikes killed three people in southern Gaza early Sunday, medics said, as the bloodiest conflict for years brought the Palestinian death toll to 346.
The first casualty as Israel’s operation entered its 13th day was 56-year-old Hosni al-Absi, who was killed in the southern city of Rafah, emergency spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.
It was not immediately clear if the explosion that killed Absi was from an air strike, tank or artillery fire, Qudra said.
Shortly afterwards, an air strike in Rafah killed two young men and wounded 10 more people, Qudra said.
The deaths brought the toll from Israel’s operation to stamp out rocket fire from the besieged Palestinian territory to 346 Palestinians.
Five Israelis, including two civilians, have been killed by cross-border rocket fire and firefights between Hamas and the army.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said in a statement early Sunday that Israeli forces had targeted ambulances trying to evacuate wounded from a heavy artillery shelling in the east of Gaza City.
