Bazan refinery says damage light, all facilities operating after Iran missile attack

Bazan oil refineries notifies the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that the roof of a distillate tank sustained “localized damage” in this morning’s missile attack from Iran, that the damage is “not substantial,” and that all production facilities are operational.
Earlier, the Fire Service clarified that the tank that was hit contained benzene and did not present harm to the public. A fire sparked by the Iranian missile attack spread black smoke smelling of petroleum over a radius of several kilometers.
This was the fourth attack in less than two years on the refinery complex, and the second since the current conflict with Iran began about a month ago. During last June’s Israel-Iran war, three workers died in a fire caused by a missile attack.
The complex is located in the middle of the densely populated Haifa metro area in northern Israel.
Under years of pressure from residents and environmental groups, the government has decided to shutter the facility by 2029 or 2030, and plans are advancing to turn the area into a green, residential and light industry hub.
The refinery’s owners, however, are pushing back and trying to get planning authorities to approve expansion.
