Yashar party chief Gadi Eisenkot welcomes the news of MK Yuli Edelstein’s departure from the Likud party, encouraging others to follow in his footsteps.

“I hope Yuli Edelstein will be a role model for others in Likud who aren’t willing to endanger national security to advance draft-evasion for narrow political ends, or who are fed up with the culture of lies and intimidation,” Eisenkot writes on X.

“I’ve sat through many dozens of discussions next to Yuli, when he was head of the [Knesset] National Security and Defense Committee, to advance a real conscription law that would strengthen the [Israel Defense Forces],” continues Eisenkot.

“Together we passed one of the most important laws of this Knesset — the National Security Strategy for Israel Law. We were divided, and we didn’t agree about everything, but his decision to choose the best for Israel was thoroughly admirable.”

“The time has come for leadership focused solely on what is good for Israel,” he concludes.
