An Egyptian vessel briefly entered Israeli waters without authorization earlier today, the IDF says.
According to the military, Israeli Navy forces called on the vessel to stop, and after it failed to respond, warning shots were fired. The vessel subsequently changed course and returned to Egyptian waters. No casualties were reported.
“IDF forces acted in accordance with procedures, called on the vessel to stop, and after it failed to comply, dispersal measures were carried out,” the military says in response to queries. “The IDF emphasizes that Egypt is a key partner to the [Gaza] peace agreement, and security coordination between the two countries continues as usual.”
According to a military source, Egyptian officials expressed regret over the incident and took responsibility for it.
