Sources cited by Saudi-owned outlet Al-Hadath say an Israeli airstrike overnight in the Beirut suburb of Hazmieh targeted an Iranian official, who the sources say was likely a diplomat.
According to the report, the Israeli strike targeted the hotel room where the unnamed Iranian official and his Lebanese wife were staying. The wife was killed in the attack, while the official’s status is unclear, the report says.
Lebanese media reported early this morning that an Israeli strike hit a hotel in Hazmieh, the first recent such attack on the predominantly Christian area.
The IDF said it struck a Hezbollah command center in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh area overnight, as well as other sites belonging to the Iran-backed group.
A spokesman for Iran’s armed forces was quoted by Iranian media this afternoon as saying Iran would target Israeli embassies around the world should Israel strike Iran’s embassy in Beirut.
