A slight majority of Americans disapprove of US President Donald Trump’s handling of the war in Iran, including roughly one-third of moderate Republicans, a new poll indicates.

Fifty-four percent of voters disapprove of Trump’s management, compared to 41% who approve and 5% who say they aren’t sure, a poll published by NBC finds.

A similar share, 52%, say the US should not have taken military action against Iran, compared to 41% who say it should have and 7% who say they aren’t sure.

Results largely fall along party lines, with 89% of Democrats saying the US should not have struck Iran, while 77% of Republicans say the opposite.

Among self-identified MAGA Republicans, 90% back the strikes, while Republicans who don’t identify as part of the MAGA movement only backed the strikes to the tune of 54%, compared to 36% of them who opposed the strikes.

The high support among MAGA Republicans may surprise some, given that those are the members of the party who are seen as more isolationist.

The margin of error for 1,000 registered voters polled is 3.1%.
