Obama-Netanyahu speak about ceasefire, White House confirms
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleWhite House officials confirmed Wednesday evening that President Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone earlier in the day to discuss the ceasefire talks underway in Cairo. According to the White House, Obama “reaffirmed the United States’ support for Egypt’s mediation efforts and underscored the importance of achieving a sustainable outcome that ensures Israel’s security and addresses Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.”
The US has maintained a low profile during the Cairo talks, but State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf said Wednesday that the US delegation to the talks was just now beginning to discuss long-term plans for Gazan reconstruction.
