Politico removes cartoon criticized as antisemitic from its website

The US news site Politico removes a cartoon that had been criticized as antisemitic from its website.
The cartoon depicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump and other US leaders on a ship, with Netanyahu and Trump wearing blood-soaked tallitot, or Jewish prayer shawls.

Netanyahu was depicted with an oversize nose, and a bloody bag of money was affixed to the ship’s mast. The cartoon also features the word “Amalek,” referring to the Biblical archenemy of the Jews.
Politico says it dropped the cartoon “after weighing comments from readers that it did not meet our standards.”
“Sharp arguments and provocative imagery in political cartoons are within bounds. Images that could be reasonably interpreted to rely on ethnic stereotypes or employing tropes that have been involved in historically hateful ways are not,” the statement says.
