Saudi Arabia has arrested a suspect in a foiled car-bombing attempt. The selfsame suspect is also wanted in connection with attacks claimed by the Islamic State group, the interior ministry says.
Iqab Mujab al-Otaibi was with two other suspects who were killed Friday in a shootout with security forces who foiled the car-bombing attempt in the southwestern Aseer region, the ministry says in a statement.
Otaibi had managed to flee the scene of the shootout but security forces later found him, the statement says, adding that he was wearing an explosives belt and had weapons in his possession.
He was “surrounded and forced to surrender,” the ministry says.
According to the ministry, Otaibi allegedly took part in a deadly shooting at a Shiite mosque in 2014 and a bombing that targeted security forces at a mosque in Aseer last year.
Both attacks were claimed by IS.
