A day after State Comptroller Yosef Shapira said he would look into the government’s response to this weekend’s epic storm and assess its readiness level, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon asserted that the authorities had responded adequately to the emergency.

Noting that the unexpected severity of the storm had taken the nation by surprise, Ya’alon said the authorities had managed to respond swiftly, considering it had not been prepared to deal with an emergency of such magnitude.

“There was absolutely no failure here,” Ya’alon said Saturday.

He added that while the government would draw conclusions from this weekend’s events, which left tens of thousands stranded without electricity and water and many more stranded on impassable roads, its overall response to the storm had been quick.
