Israel is fully committed to defending the Druze in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tells Druze and Circassian council heads at a conference on the shore of the Dead Sea.
“I want to tell you what the most important mission is, to protect life,” he says. “I am committed to this, and by the way, I am also speaking with [US] President Donald Trump about it. I am committed to bringing all the strength and all the power of Israel to this sacred mission, because you bring strength and power to our alliance.”
“I want you to know that I do this for one simple reason — because we are brothers,” he continues, adding that “the Druze and the Circassians are [our] brothers — brothers do not abandon one another.”
He leaves the gathering early, according to Hebrew media reports, telling the attendees that he has to return to Jerusalem for a phone call with Trump.
