Hundreds protest in Nablus against PA’s reform of prisoner payment system

Hundreds of Palestinians participate in a protest in the northern West Bank city of Nablus against the Palestinian Authority’s reform of its prisoner payment system.
The protests are becoming a regular occurrence throughout the West Bank in recent weeks amid pushback over Ramallah’s decision to condition welfare payments strictly on recipients’ financial situation, rather than the length of their prison sentences.
The reform has seen several thousand people lose stipends that they had been receiving for years.
Israel claims that the reform is artificial but has yet to publicize information demonstrating as much.

The PA says an international audit of the reform is underway to prove that it is real, as the protests against it appear to suggest.
