The Israel Defense Forces announces that a reservist officer was killed by apparent friendly fire near the West Bank village of Immatin last yesterday.

According to the IDF’s initial investigation, troops had chased after Palestinians who had hurled stones at Israeli-owned cars, and opened fire at what they believed to be an armed Palestinian in a car.

At the same time, another group of soldiers had been called to the scene, and one of them was apparently hit by the gunfire.

The officer, named as Cpt. (res.) Yaakov Nadlin, 36, a combat soldier in the Samaria Brigade from Or Akiva, was killed, and another soldier was lightly hurt.

The Military Police has launched a probe into the incident.
