The UK’s Ministry of Defense says in its latest intelligence update that Russia continues to carry out airstrikes against densely populated civilian areas in Ukraine.

Russian aircraft are launching “stand-off” munitions from within Russian airspace to reduce their exposure to Ukrainian air defenses, the update says. Stand-off missiles are fired from a long range to avoid coming close to enemy air defenses.

The US has said Russia’s stand-off missiles have a failure rate of 60%, and Russia’s stocks are dwindling, meaning they will increasingly revert to less sophisticated weaponry, or put their aircraft at greater risk.
