Police believe that a 63-year-old man arrested yesterday on suspicion of trying to kidnap a young girl in Beersheba was also involved in the disappearance of Haymanut Kasau, who went missing in February 2024 at the age of nine, Hebrew outlets report.
The suspicion came to light today during a remand hearing for the suspect in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court, where he was ordered to six more days of remand.
Justice Dorit Saban-Noy reportedly wrote in her decision that there is reasonable suspicion against him in both cases, the Kan public broadcaster reports.
The investigation, overseen by the Lahav 433 major crimes unit, is currently subject to a gag order.
Lawyers in the Public Defender’s Office representing the suspect tell Kan that their client has no criminal record and describe him as a “law-abiding citizen,” but decline to elaborate in light of the gag order.
