Addressing the funeral for Rabbi Eli Schlanger, one of the speakers compares the deadly terror attack targeting a Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach to the Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel in October 2023.

“Our community suffered our own October 7. That’s what this is,” Rabbi Yehoram Ulman, Schlanger’s father-in-law, tells mourners at Chabad of Bondi Synagogue.

“So much pain, so much tragedy,” adds Ulman, noting the 15 people killed and dozens wounded in the attack.

Speaking about his son-in-law Schlanger, Ulman says, “it’s the closest ones [to God] who are taken.”
