The UJA-Federation of New York, the leading Jewish group in New York City, announces that Dr. Michael A. Kay will be its chief executive officer.
Kay will take the reins from Eric Goldstein, who has led the group for 12 years.
Kay has been the head of school at the Leffell School, formerly the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, for the past 13 years, the federation says.
“Working together, we will reimagine how we engage the next generation, deepen our partnership with Israel, and mobilize the full breadth of Jewish communal wisdom,” Kay says in a statement.
Kay will step into the role on October 5 as the Jewish community grapples with high rates of discrimination, hostility to Israel, and ongoing disputes with the Mamdani administration.
Goldstein, who is highly regarded and popular in the US Jewish community, announced that he was leaving the federation in July, saying he wished to spend more time with his family in New York and Israel and take on new projects.
